Flutter MVP Cost in 2026: What a First App Really Costs
A Flutter MVP in 2026 typically costs $1,500 to $6,000 for a focused booking or ordering app, $8,000 to $18,000 for a two-sided marketplace, and $10,000 to $25,000 for a SaaS product with a web admin panel. These are our planning ranges as of October 2026. Screens, user roles, integrations and backend work move the number most.
How much does a Flutter app cost to build in 2026?
Here are the three MVP shapes we see most, with planning ranges for a small studio. They are a starting point, not a quote. Large agencies usually charge more for the same scope.
| MVP type | What's in version one | Typical timeline | Planning range (USD, as of Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Simple booking or ordering app | One customer app (8 to 12 screens), sign-in, menu or service list, cart or booking, card payments, push notifications, basic web admin | 4 to 6 weeks | $1,500 to $6,000 |
| Two-sided marketplace | Customer and provider roles, listings, search and filters, payments with payouts to providers, ratings, admin moderation | 8 to 12 weeks | $8,000 to $18,000 |
| SaaS with admin panel | Flutter app plus a web dashboard, teams and permissions, subscription billing, reports, audit log | 10 to 16 weeks | $10,000 to $25,000 |
The low end assumes a clear spec, standard design patterns and a hosted backend. The high end assumes custom design and more integrations.
Shorai Studios, a founder-led AI studio that builds web and mobile apps, starts Web & App Development projects at $1,500 as of October 2026, with the final price set by scope.
What drives the cost of an MVP?
Four things decide most of the price.
Screens. Every screen needs design, layout for small and large phones, loading states, empty states and error states. A 10-screen app and a 30-screen app are different projects.
User roles. Each role (customer, staff, provider, admin) needs its own flows and its own permissions. Adding a second role is never a small change, because it touches sign-in, data access, notifications and the admin panel.
Integrations. Payments, maps, SMS, a POS, a CRM, a calendar. Each one brings an API to learn, test accounts to set up and failure cases to handle. A clean, well-documented API is a few days. An old POS with a poor API can be weeks.
Backend. A hosted backend like Supabase or Firebase gives you sign-in, a database and file storage out of the box. A custom backend makes sense when you have unusual business rules, heavy reporting or an existing system to plug into, and it costs more.
What does each feature cost?
Effort is a better unit than dollars here, because your studio's rate turns days into money. These are our typical estimates for a Flutter app on a hosted backend.
| Feature | Typical effort | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Email or phone sign-in | 2 to 4 days | Includes password reset and verification |
| Google and Apple sign-in | 1 to 2 extra days | If you offer Google or other social logins on iOS, Apple requires an equivalent privacy-focused login option too; Sign in with Apple is the usual choice |
| One-off card payments (Stripe) | 3 to 5 days | Includes receipts and failed-payment handling |
| Subscriptions | 5 to 8 days | Trials, upgrades, cancellations, store rules for digital goods |
| Push notifications | 2 to 3 days | Order updates, reminders, simple campaigns |
| Maps and location | 3 to 6 days | Delivery radius, store finder, live tracking costs more |
| Basic web admin dashboard | 1 to 2 weeks | Manage products, orders, users |
| In-app chat between users | 1 to 2 weeks | Real-time messages, read status, moderation |
| Live order tracking | 1 to 2 weeks | Status changes pushed to customers and staff |
The hidden line item is testing across iPhones, Android devices and slow networks. Budget for it from the start.
Is Flutter good for an MVP?
For most customer apps, yes. Flutter is Google's framework for building iOS and Android apps from one codebase. You pay for one set of screens and one set of business logic, and both store versions ship at the same time.
That matters most at MVP stage, when the app changes every week. One change, one codebase, two stores.
Flutter is a weaker fit when the product depends on deep device features: heavy camera processing, Apple Watch apps, or advanced AR. In those cases, native code (Swift for iOS, Kotlin for Android) is often cleaner. For ordering, booking, loyalty, marketplaces and dashboards, Flutter is the faster and cheaper choice.
What are the running costs after launch?
The fixed fees are small. As of October 2026:
| Cost | Amount | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Developer Program | $99 | Per year |
| Google Play developer account | $25 | One-time |
| Hosted backend (Supabase or Firebase) | Free tiers cover many MVPs; paid tiers by usage | Monthly |
| Payment processing (Stripe) | Per-transaction fee | Per payment |
| Maintenance and small features | Depends on plan | Monthly |
Check the Supabase, Firebase and Stripe pricing pages for current figures, since they change and depend on your country and usage.
The real running cost is engineering time. Apple and Google release major OS updates every year, and Google Play requires apps to target recent Android versions to stay listed. Packages need updates. Users find bugs. A small monthly maintenance plan is cheaper than an emergency fix the week your app stops building.
How long does it take to build an MVP?
Use the timelines in the first table, then add one to two weeks for store review, test builds and fixes from your first real users.
The fastest way to slip a timeline is changing scope mid-build. The second fastest is waiting on content: menus, photos, prices and legal text. Have those ready before development starts.
How do you cut scope without cutting value?
Write down the one thing a user must be able to do on day one. For a restaurant app, that is "order food and pay." For a clinic, "book an appointment." Everything else is a candidate for version two.
Things we usually move out of v1:
- Loyalty points and referral codes. Useful once you have repeat users. Not before.
- A separate staff app. A web admin panel on a tablet often does the job for the first months.
- In-app chat. A WhatsApp link or a phone number works until volume proves otherwise.
- Multiple payment methods. Start with cards (plus Apple Pay and Google Pay through Stripe). Add others when customers ask.
- Custom animations and illustrations. Standard components look clean and ship faster.
- Automating rare tasks. If a refund happens twice a week, a person can handle it from the dashboard.
What you should not cut: crash reporting, basic analytics, secure sign-in and a way for users to reach you. Those are how you learn what to build next.
For a real example of a phased build, our restaurant ordering system for SpiceHUT started from customer and staff Flutter apps and online ordering, then connected AI ordering agents to the same order queue. If phone orders matter to you, our guide to AI phone ordering for restaurants explains how that layer works, and what an AI voice agent costs in 2026 covers the running cost.
How do you get a fixed written quote?
Ask for a fixed price on a written scope, not an hourly estimate on a vague idea. A good quote lists every screen, every role, every integration and what is out of scope. If a studio cannot write that down after a call, the price will move.
Also confirm ownership in writing. You should own the source code, the App Store and Google Play listings under your own developer accounts, and the hosting, database and payment accounts.
We go one step further: your first version is on us. We build the base of the app for free so you can see it working on your phone before you pay. If your idea cannot start that small, you get a free consultation and a written project spec instead.
FAQ
How much does a Flutter app cost to build in 2026? A focused Flutter MVP with one customer app, sign-in, a catalog or booking flow, payments and a basic admin panel usually lands between $1,500 and $6,000 with a small studio. Two-sided marketplaces and SaaS products with web dashboards cost more, often $8,000 to $25,000, because they add roles, payouts, permissions and more screens. These are planning ranges as of October 2026, not quotes.
How long does it take to build an MVP? A simple booking or ordering MVP takes about four to six weeks from signed scope to store submission. A marketplace takes roughly eight to twelve weeks, and a SaaS product with an admin panel and subscriptions takes ten to sixteen. Add one to two weeks for App Store and Google Play review, test builds and fixes found by your first real users.
Is Flutter good for an MVP? Yes, for most customer-facing apps. Flutter builds iOS and Android from one codebase, so you pay for one set of screens and one set of business logic instead of two. It handles forms, lists, maps, payments and push notifications well. Pick native development only if the core of your product depends on deep device features such as advanced camera processing or watch apps.
What does an app cost to maintain each year? Fixed costs are small: the Apple Developer Program is $99 per year and a Google Play developer account is a one-time $25, as of October 2026. Hosting on Supabase or Firebase is often free at MVP scale. The bigger cost is engineering time to handle yearly iOS and Android updates, bug fixes and small features, which most studios cover with a monthly plan.
Do I own the code if an agency builds my app? You should, and it should say so in writing. Ask for the source code in a repository you control, the App Store and Google Play listings under your own developer accounts, and your hosting, database and payment accounts in your company's name. If an agency owns any of those, moving to another developer later becomes slow and expensive.
What is the cheapest way to build an app MVP? Cut the scope, not the quality. Build one user role, one core flow and one payment method. Use a hosted backend like Supabase or Firebase, a web-based admin panel instead of a second app, and manual work behind the scenes where volume is low. A smaller app built properly is cheaper than a big app rebuilt after launch.
